
Storage
tanks are also classified into 2 basic groups:- i.e.
1.
Above ground storage tanks
2. Under ground storage tanks
Above Ground Storage Tanks:
Above ground storage tanks are further classified into Elevated
and Surface storage tanks.
Elevated tanks are either circular, rectangular or square in
shape. Elevated Storage tanks ranging capacity of 500 – 1.5million
litres and are situated on steel tower of 3 – 24 metres heights.
Surface storage tank comprises of the vertical cylindrical
storage tanks called the VST, horizontal cylindrical storage tanks
and Rectangular or square storage tanks.
Rectangular or square storage tanks are mounted either on dwarf
walls or raft foundations and they are basically used for the
storage of water.
Horizontal cylindrical storage tank are produced and mounted on
saddles or fabricated to stand on tripod legs. They are used for
storage capacity of 500 – 105,000 litres while VST storage tanks are
used from capacity of 150,000 – 9 million litres. Both VST and
horizontal cylindrical storage tank are used basically for the
storage of Petroleum Products.
Under Ground Storage Tanks:
Under-ground storage tanks are fabricated in horizontal cylindrical
shape without saddle. They are used basically for the storage of
Petroleum products in Fuel filling station.
