AS part of its responsibility towards accrediting Nigerian based companies to enable them gain International recognition, the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has presented a Certificate of Recognition to Arewa Metal Containers limited (ARMECO).
According to him, the current model of the quality management system standard NIS ISO 9001:2000 to which ARMECO system has been certified has shifted emphasis from just conforming to the rules and regulations to actual system performance 'Today's occasion confirms that ARMECO has been able to imbibe these principles and has demonstrated that her operations are carried out under controlled conditions capable of delivering quality products and services to all her customers, and other stakeholders in a consistent manner". He said. Dr. Akanya, who congratulated the management and staff of ARMECO for being one of the few companies which' has been certified in the country, called on all organizations that are yet to be certified to take advantage of the enormous benefits of the ISO certification. He, however, warned that the certificate is subject to withdrawal if the structures presently in place for certification break down or continue to deteriorate and no tangible efforts made to address them. "With this certification, your system will be placed on a six month surveillance audit to ensure continuing suitability Having been certified, the SON Director-General who went further challenged the management of the organization to strive hard to providing quality management system towards sustainable development and achieve an optimal balance between economic progress and social
Earlier in his address, the Managing Director of the 40 year old company, Alhaji Isiaq F. Babatunde who commended the SON for their focus in bringing about a complete turn-around in the safety of lives and investment, explained that the journey to NIS ISO 9001:2000 certification is long and stressful, saying his organisation would continue to provide qualitative and reliable products and services to the general public. "To us in ARMECO the journey was thorny and sweet, long and stressful though rewarding, this is because of our passion for excellence and obsession for high quality standards over the years," he said. According to him, the destructions of roads, sudden collapse of private and public buildings, unguarded importation of sub-standard products into the country and perpetuation of economic hardship which has resulted to the death of so many breadwinners arc issue that need to be addressed by all stakeholders. Alhaji Babatunde therefore called on Nigerians to continue to rely on ARMECO and SON as they stride hard to put Nigerian problems on the front burner and address them thoroughly by all means through enlightenment and dialogue to protect the country from been used as a dumping ground for sub-standard products in order to pave way for sustainable industrial growth and stability in the country. |
